A Big 12 Battle For Ben Gula
A pair of black and gold schools from the Big 12 are battling it out for Cypress Bay (Fla) OL Ben Gula as his recruitment comes down to the wire, he sat down with me to discuss his decision.
ORLANDO, FL - Who wears black and gold the best, Colorado or UCF? That’s not exactly the question three star Cypress Bay (Weston, Fla) offensive lineman Ben Gula is looking to answer but the two schools are the final two competing for his commitment. On Monday night Gula would announce the decision to focus on both Big 12 schools as he approaches a decision within the next few weeks. He made visits to both spots in the month of June which was very important to him as he didn’t have a long-standing relationship with either school with the Buffaloes being so far away and the previous UCF staff not showing interest. That changed earlier this year with the arrival of Shawn Clark as offensive line coach for the Knights who made Gula a target in late-January, while the Buffaloes made him a priority during the middle of Spring. Talking with Gula he talked about the position change that he would make at either school with both primarily recruiting him at the center position saying, “Going from tackle to center, obviously, is a little bit different, but I know how to snap. I've been snapping my whole life just in case a time like this showed up and it worked out pretty well. But it's a lot more in your face, and you don't have to play in space as much, so I've always thought it was a lot easier.”
